LYNG FLING 2019 raised £2,670 for 6 causes...

SENsational Families Support Group - Awarded £430
Supporting families in Norfolk who have a child with special educational needs or a disability, they run free support groups for parents and carers, and a range of training.  They have two amazing parent support advisors who provide 1:1 support to families and they have an extremely active online forum, which currently has over 1300 parents / carers in Norfolk accessing it.  They want to provide support and activities at reduced costs as they believe it’s unfair for families who have SEND children to have to pay for support. It costs 1/3 more to raise a SEND child and to then charge families for support is something they feel is unfair. All funding helps support these families.  Charity No. 1173051

New Playgroup - Little DuckLyngs - Awarded £430
The old playgroup at the nursery school had to close in July 2019. Volunteers set up a new playgroup at Lyng Village Hall, which started September 2019.  Funding was needed to meet the costs of establishing the new playgroup, for equipment, craft materials, refreshments, etc, and for some basic publicity, and storage etc.  Charity No. 1156339

Wensum Valley Nursery School - Awarded £430
A permanent canopy to attach to the nursery to protect the children from the sun in summer and the rain in winter is needed.  This will enable the children to use the outside area more. The canopy will therefore have health and educational benefits. Charity No. 1028912

Friends of Lyng School (FOLS) - Awarded £430
FOLS are a small team of parents who organise and fundraise events to provide much needed funds for the school and pupils. The money will make a huge difference to FOLS as they would hopefully be able to purchase some much needed outdoor shelter, transport for school trips, activities and new outside equipment for the children.

St. Margaret's Church - Awarded £430
Funding is still needed for re-wiring the church and new heating, to make the church warmer and more welcoming to the community.

Lyng Parish Council - Awarded £430
Our PC requested money to help 2 council funded facilities in Lyng:

  • Lyng Playground - Some equipment needs repairing and replacing to update and improve our children's playground.unding needed for re-wiring the church and new heating.  To make the church warmer and more welcoming to the community.

  • Community Defibrillator Course - Another course will be available for members of the community to attend so they can be confident should they ever have to use the village's defibrillator located at Lyng Stores & Tea Room

In 2017 we raised £2,731 and the causes that benefited were...

FOLS are a group of volunteer parents that fund-raise for Lyng Primary School so the children can benefit from extra activities, trips and equipment.

Friends of Lyng School (FOLS)

They were successfully selected to design their own leaping leveret that was displayed in Norwich's GoGoHares Trail in 2018.

Funding was required for the learning resource pack and they had the chance to take part in a writing workshop, and their sculpture was returned to them at the end of the trail to keep forever at the school.

St. Margaret's Church

The earliest stone church has stood on this site for 1,000 years, since the times of King Canute.  The porch is 15th Century, with its original door, as also are the Perpendicular windows in the nave, while the font is 13th Century.

It is essential that we maintain our historic church, and funding was requested by the Parochial Church Council (PCC) to help with electrical rewiring and new heaters which £19,000 had already been raised for.

Awarded £1,000...

Lyng's Village Hall was old and run down, and needed replacing.  The project team in 2018 secured a grant from the Big Lottery to fund the project for a new hall to serve the community.

Lyng Village Hall Project

The Big Lottery's grant was a significant amount but the project team still needed to raise a large amount to ensure the build could go ahead.

Funding was required to fill the shortfall of around £50,000.  We gladly gave money to this project which serves our community.

Awarded £543...

Wensum Valley Nursery School

This nursery school has been serving Lyng as a pre-school since 1969, and in 1993 became a registered charity.

Approximately 30 two to four years olds attend this nursery, and each child has their own Learning Journey, a folder where all their achievements and memories of their time at the nursery are recorded.

Funding was requested to purchase a new colour laser printer so better quality photographs can be printed for the children's Learning Journeys, and it will be more cost effective and efficient in the long run.

A Rural First Aid Workshop

Lyng Parish Council organised a First Aid workshop in Lyng for the residents of our rural community to attend.

LYNG FLING contributed £100+ to the cost of this workshop, which meant it was free for all attendants.
